Every year I get really excited about the Burlington Sound of Music Festival. It happens every Father's Day weekend and it's FREE!!! I saw so many awesome bands playing there and got super close to the stage.
For those of you that have never heard of this amazing music festival, well it's the very best thing in Burlington. They get bands from lots of different genres, so there's something for everyone. They usually play right by the lake, which is already an incredible experience. There's something about outdoor concerts that is just special. I think it's a different energy, vibe. Seriously, it's awesome!!!

Through the years I saw tons of awesome bands. In 2005 I saw The Trews for the fist time. How inspiring to see so many incredible Canadian bands! Makes me soooo proud!!!

There are lots of cool bands this year, so if you live in the area or are planning a trip, this is the time to come out. I'll be there!
'Pumped Up Kicks' by Foster the People is one of my favourite songs right now. I'm pretty sure I've listened to it at least once every day this week. This song has a really cool beat, and it gets stuck in your head and you find yourself singing it a few hours later. I like the effects they use on the singing, and that adds to the catchiness as well. To me, it's one of those songs that when you hear it on the radio, and no matter what you're doing (like I MUST leave now otherwise I'll be late) you have to listen to that song. (Last year, "that" song was 'Mountain Man' by Crash Kings. I later bought their album, and that is my favourite album of all time, and I highly recommend you buy it.)

Their debut album is to be released on May 23rd and is already causing a buzz! I know I'm getting it FOR SURE!!!
So, the world is supposedly ending tomorrow. Or maybe not. I have a few things I'd like to do before my time is up. Like getting my music heard and meeting some of my idols. When I saw It Might Get Loud my first thought was that both Jack White and The Edge must have checked one of the items of their bucket list, since meeting Jimmy Page must have been a definite goal. Can you imagine what it'd be like to jam with JP? So, no, the world cannot end just yet. There are too many things for me to do and places for me to go. And new food for me to try.
That being said, I'd like to say that I have really high hopes for our planet.
You can totally feel the energy of the Earth just watching the movement of the waves, the energy of the water.
I know, right? So, instead of focusing on the negative, I want to leave some cool sounds for you to enjoy. Cause music, as much as it changes all the time, is something that never ends. It's the true definition of forever.
Yes, they caught the guy that did it. Did he really think he could get away with this? Are we back in the medieval times when people were pelted with rotten eggs, fruits and vegetables??? At that time, this was considered a form of insult. I guess some things remain the same. But why? I mean, if I don't enjoy this or that artist, I just do not go to their concert. I think I have better ways to spend my money, other than going to see a musician I am not crazy about. And the egg throwing thing. It's just LAME!

Do any of you remember when Noel Gallagher was assaulted on stage in 2008?
What makes someone think it's okay to attack a musician? Are people jealous? Or just mean? Or do they think it's funny, that it's a really funny prank to egg someone? Do they do this on a regular base? Or they just wake up some days and have this brilliant idea: "Today I'm gonna egg Justin Bieber" or "Why not get onstage and kick the guitarist? Good times!!!!"
This kind of violence is just so ignorant! It's not funny. It's not cool. And it needs to stop!
Do you, as a songwriter, submit your songs to music contests? And if you do, what's the feedback you get? I know people that do it all the time. And I've done my share too. I got an account at Sonicbids a couple of years ago. And I thought it would be cool to see what the professionals thought of my music. So, I submitted my songs to lots of different contests. Some didn't even bother to send a personal rejection letter. Some were nicer and actually wrote nice things and encouraged me to keep writing. Out of all the music contests, the nicest one was the UK Songwriting Contest. And I'm not just saying that because I happen to be last year's rock winner. It goes beyond that. They are well organized and very friendly. You can actually trade messages with them and they treat you really well. And because of their high level of organization, you end up meeting lots of great, very talented people. I'm talking about other fellow contestants. The networking power of this specific contest is worth more than just being a winner, semi-finalist or runner-up. Because winning is awesome, but meeting awesome people is a rare gift.
